Ottawa West–Nepean
Josh Bizjak
Josh Bizjak is a distinguished NGO management professional based in Ottawa, and the newly appointed federal NDP candidate for Ottawa West—Nepean.
Born a native of Toronto's west end, Josh's career is marked by his transformative leadership in progressive politics. His journey began with the Ontario NDP, where, as Head of Stakeholder Relations and Director of Fundraising, he spearheaded key initiatives that strengthened the party’s foundation.
In 2011, he transitioned to Ottawa, where his strategic vision earned him the role of founding Director of Development at the Broadbent Institute. There, he was instrumental in its decade-long expansion, working closely with the late Ed Broadbent to secure the institute’s financial sustainability and growth.
Bizjak was appointed Senior Advisor to the National Director of Canada’s New Democratic Party in 2018 under the leadership of Jagmeet Singh, further affirming his expertise at the highest-political level.
His career reached another milestone in 2021, when he was proudly named Executive Director of the Douglas Coldwell Layton Foundation. In this new role, Josh has drawn on his immense experience in NGO management and campaign development to modernize, reform and rejuvenate Tommy Douglas' iconic charitable foundation.
With decades of advancing progressive governance across Canada, Josh has now set his sights on a new way to serve: standing for election as the federal NDP candidate here in our beautiful riding of Ottawa West—Nepean. Now more than ever Josh is determined to bring meaningful change to his community through his extensive expertise and commitment to progressive politics.
Josh lovingly shares his Ottawa home with his partner, Lydia, and their charming dog Rufus, where they collectively embrace shared principles and embody the values of community, compassion, and progress.
